| OUR VISION: |

|
| Committed to large scale re-afforestation by planting ten trees for every single tree harvested. |
| OUR COMMITMENT: |
Our group has maintained a firm policy to meet its environmental responsibilities to protect future generation of Ghanaians.
It is with this vision that the company started the re-afforestation of the degraded areas within its forest concession in the Boumfum Forest Reserve in the Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region in 1993.
After successfully establishing the re-afforestation project in the Boumfum Forest Reserve, the company saw the need to extend it to Amama and Awura Forest Reserves in the Sunyani and Mampong districts in Brong Ahafo and Ashanti regions respectively.
A “modified Taungya” system which allows farmers to inter crop food crops with timber trees for a period of three years is being used in the establishment with the view to attaining the following other objectives in line with the President’s initiative on reforestation launched at Ayiege in the year 2001 in the Wenchi district of Brong Ahafo region :
|
i. Creating a raw material base for the future supply of the company
ii. Rehabilitate degraded forests by restoring tree cover
iii. Create jobs in the rural communities thereby reducing poverty level and increase food production
iv. Create the balance in vegetation of the area
More than 1200 hectres were rehabilitated and 4,722,070 trees planted by end of October 2006, with a combination of indigenous and exotic species comprising Teak, Cedrella, Kokrodua, Okyere, Onyina, Emire, Wawa, Kyenkyen, Ofram and Mahogany.
In line with its commitment to on-going sustainability of Ghana’s forest and wood products industry, the group allocates sufficient financial resources to support its plantation development effort. The group's direct expenditure on its plantation development efforts amounts on average $250,000 per year.
We have engaged Asumadu Associates of Australia as our consultant in addition to the Forest Research Institute of Ghana . Both institutions have been carrying out research, monitoring and advising the company on the re-afforestation. |
